Breath Description-

A breath of life is all she longs for as she traverse the lifeless streets. She feels trapped in a city that has no exits. She comes across a creature that the city rarely sees. It is trapped in a cage, a feeling she’s familiar with. The latch is released and so is the fish. “A fish” she muses as she dances along to the rhythm of the fish and begins pursuing it. Soon she stops as she draws near a line, the line that divides her from the fish. The line becomes a barrier that is meant to protect her but what’s there to live if you’re trapped inside.

Koh Zi wei+

“I am not narcissistic enough to write my biography but I’ll try.” – Ziwei

When one ask does art imitates life or life imitates art, there are those who will be philosophical, there are those who will be smug and there are those who simply don’t give an absolute care. But for me, I felt my life was imitating art.

Art became an interest when I was young, I need not toys but paper and pencils. I was a soft-spoken child with a loud passion towards art, I would be asked what do I want to do when I grow up and my answer of being an artist never wavered.

Art became a form of release in my pre-teen’s, when I found out the world was not as wonderful as it seemed when I was young. Anxieties, responsibilities, phases, friends and many other factors of life left me panting and mentally exhausted. But art became a more significant in my life, my art has more dark themes in it with reflections of the problems I faced in the path. I ultimately made the decision of majoring in Art as an “”O”” level subject.

Art became an experimentation in my late-teen’s. I was unsure of where to go next after graduating with an average score. I was sure that I was not going to a JC; I was sure that I am either going to a poly or other art related institutes. I ended up in Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics. This kickstarted a change in the medium of my artform, from traditional arts to digital arts. I was exposed to a whole new side of art ranging from digital photography, videography, graphic design, motion design, and digital film.

This allowed me to develop my own voice in arts with different mediums and I acquired an eccentric style in my art. I aim to be different, unique, unapologetic but most importantly to have my art evoke emotions. Be it joy, sadness, anger, fear or awe as long as it evoked feelings, it has a meaning.

For my final year, we got to pitch a story for our semester long project and I was chosen. I was not required to have a narrative in my VFX sequence but my principle of having meaning behind my craft, stands resilient. It took six months, with the help from team mates, to give birth to my film. I received a distinction.

After the film, I became an intern for TMRRW Studio. I gained a lot experience working with a dedicated team of like-minded creatives and learnt not only technical skills but also life skills of a functioning adult in a modern age. I later became a part time designer for TMRRW for an indefinite time.

I wonder what art will be in my next phase of my life.

Strengths/Interests
I am an introverted support team player with skills ranging from graphic design, motion design, videography and photography. Music is also a critical art form in my life which I have skills in, piano, trombone, drums.

Bharathi has always been fascinated by the art of filmmaking. First picking up photography in her CCA, ELDDS Media & Publicity Club, at the age of thirteen,

Nur Huda Binte Jasni+

Biography
When Huda was in secondary school, she decided to venture into the performing arts sector by joining her school’s concert band and Malay dance CCA. At the end of her 4 years in secondary school, she wanted to explore the creative art sector. She was inspired by film and motion graphics closer to the end of her final examinations. She took on the role as a producer in the majority of her group projects as the role allows her flexibility in creativity and organisation.

In her final year, she joined Vividthree Productions as a Production Assistant intern. There she worked at the front office handling project coordination and production. During her internship, she was worked on projects such as commercials, infographics and films of major industry players. Her internship also widened her perspective on the amount of effort and coordination that it takes to produce a short 15 second GIF.

Her interest lies in voluntary work and reading. She was an active member in the school’s outreach programme for the first two years in Singapore Polytechnic. She has been involved in introducing Singapore Polytechnic to the public through open houses, events and seminars.

Wee Cher Min Sharlene+

Biography
Sharlene recorded and edited her first video at the age of 12, with only a webcam and windows movie maker. She liked exploring around with the paint application, creating her own wallpapers and learnt a little about how html code works for blogs. Soon, tests and major exams came along and her exploring paused.

Upon completing her N’Levels, she moved on to Singapore Polytechnic through the Poly-Foundation-Program. Truthfully, she did not know if she had the passion for this course but went head-on anyway. When she came to her internship in her third year with Big 3 Productions, she finally realised her passion in post-production. Although in her 3 years she was mostly the editor for projects, she feels being exposed to a variety of roles and relevant skills, was the best thing that could happen to her.

Strength/Interest
Sharlene has the passion to learn and the willingness to take on any challenges that comes her way. Apart from technical skills learnt in software, her interest in dance helped her to be a better person as well. She was in the ExCo as head of Publicity for SP’s dance club, Strictly Dance Zone in the year 2014. She was able to apply her skills in this role and has performed at various venues such as Kallang Theatre and The Esplanade.

Besides dance and school, she meets friends of the same interests and often help cover local dance events under Richard Prayoga Productions.

Denzil Neo Li Hao+

Biography
In his early teenage years, Denzil has a wide range of interest. From music, sciences, film to engineering, he was unsure of the course that best suit him. Denzil decided that he should apply for a Direct Poly Admission (DPA) and contemplated between Music & Audio Technology(DMAT) and Visual effects & motion graphics(DVEMG). He finally decided on the latter. (though it can very well be a hobby)

Through DVEMG, Denzil has better insights of how the industry works and has developed a stronger interest in both Production and Post-production. Even though he agrees most of the basic post-production skills can be learned online (youtube), he feels that the course has introduced the importance of communication while in a team; A skill and experience that you will not be able to receive online. He feels that he is capable of both phases of production (Production and Post-Production) but he is more experienced in post production because of his role as a motion designer during his internship.

Internship was where Denzil pushed his skills in Post-Production. The deadlines are always tight and he was required to be self-reliant, as the only motion designer in the company. Working solo really honed his skills in graphic design, motion graphics and sound design & mixing.

Denzil was so efficient during his internship that he was offered a freelance opportunity. Denzil hopes to be able to take on more projects that build his portfolio.

Strength/Interest
Working under pressure suits Denzil. As a Drum Major in his secondary school band, Denzil has balanced time management with quality.

Nicknamed the Jack of all trades during his internship, he is able to execute an entire motion graphics advertisement all by himself, including music mixing and sound design without assistance. He has met several unfavorable situations through the projects but is able to overcome them with even more unusual techniques.

As a musician himself, Denzil treasures the relationship between Music & Sound to Film & Visual Effects. He strongly believes that a good film isn’t entirely based on visuals, but a mix of both. So he has also ventured into the art of Sound Design and Mixing through Adobe Audition, that is not part of the course. He has used this skill proficiently through most of his projects, with his knowledge of Music. Denzil hopes to be able to be part of a successful no-dialogue film with a score of his own one day.

Achievements/Experiences
Project 20/20 – Goldfish (Sound Designer)
Internship – Orfeostory

S.O.A.R Description-

S.O.A.R is a Visual Effect Sequence (VFX) based on how a pilot defends its country from intruders. This final idea was conceptualized based on a variation of ideas that were generated at the start of the project. One of the ideas was to create a VFX sequence of a post zombie apocalypse where an extraction team will have to fly in their battleship from their base to the extraction point to extract any survivors from the location. This VFX sequence will have the elements of 3D Integration, Motion Graphics, Simulations and Particles and Tracking. Another idea was to do a VFX sequence of a promotional video for the military to showcase their weapon and fighter jets. This idea came from the RSAF promotional video. In addition to that, we also came up with an action sequence of a dogfight where the idea came from movies like “Stealth” and “Return to Base”.

Abdul Fattah Bin Mohamed Anwar+

Biography
Long before he enrolled for the diploma course, Fattah has already started making videos at home for YouTube with self-taught Windows movie maker. Those were simple home videos with siblings without any production value but purely on enjoyable storytelling.

When he deiscoverd visual effects and its added value to visual story-telling, he decided to enroll in the Diploma in Visual Effect & Motion Graphics (DVEMG). Midway, Fattah felt that he cannot sustain his interest.Despite excelling, he feels lacking in passion for Visual Effects to help his storytelling. Being constantly exposed to new things did not help to maintain his original passion, until he worked on a professional film set as a Lighting PA. He got more job offers after that and it ignited Fattah’s passion in filmmaking again.

Even though Fattah no longer intends to pursue a role in the visual effects or motion graphics industry, his journey in DVEMG has allowed him to gain perspective from the post-production side of film-making. And that’s what truly matters.

Strengths/Interests
Fattah personally feels that he is able complete any task given to him beyond what’s expected. He is also constantly passionate about learning new things because it better improves himself.

His main interest, however, is in lighting. He is currently working part time as a Lighting Grip to gain experience and has worked in big sets for feature films and TVCs.

Aside from the technical skills in softwares that she picked up within the course, she also works along well with people and is able to assist her peers in completing assignments and projects.

She hope to use her skills someday in supporting the cause for stray animals which she have been actively participating in.
