Description
The Health Promotion Board (HPB) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Singapore. It was established in 2001 to act as the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes, with a vision to build a nation of healthy people. Through healthcare programmes and initiatives, and working closely with other organisations operating in the healthcare ecosystem, their goal is to help Singaporeans better manage their health and in turn reduce the burden of disease and rising healthcare costs for the nation. One of the key campaigns that fall under the Nutrition pillar of Healthy Lifestyle Marketing is the Caloric Literacy Campaign.

The main objective of this campaign is to educate Singaporeans on the recommended daily intake of calories – 2200 calories for men and 1800 calories for women. The aim is to encourage them to be more aware of their food and beverage choices as well as to better manage their consumption on a daily basis and ultimately to develop more healthy eating habits.

Description
Shopping online has steadily gained popularity over the years and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has been observing a steady rise in the number of parcels containing health products being shipped onto local shores. In a study conducted by HSA in 2008, it was discovered that nearly two-thirds of online purchases of health products were counterfeit, adulterated or substandard. Health supplements made up the majority of these purchases, with prescription medicines a close second.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also highlighted the increasing concern of counterfeit or adulterated medicines in many countries. Undeclared potent ingredients may cause possible adverse reactions and drug interactions with other medicines, which can harm consumers’ health and well-being.

As a consumer, cheap bargains and enticing offers that they find online are hard to resist. But illegal online sellers do not disclose much information about their product (e.g. the source, conditions which they were manufactured or stored), and that lack of information is a danger.

Objectives of the FYP campaign:
1. Raise awareness for consumers to recognise dangers of online purchase of health products
2. Remind them to always buy their health products from established sources. Do not buy from unknown and dubious websites. If unwell, always consult a healthcare professional on their condition.
3. Educate consumers to visit HSA website to learn more (healthdangers.com)

Description
“Singapore hosts large scale events, such as the Laneway music festival, SEA Games, National Day Parade, New Year countdown, River Hongbao and Chingay, that attracts tens of thousands of attendees including youths. After these events, trash is left all over the event grounds.

Mass events become mess events.

Rather than being a clean city, Singapore is a cleaned city. Littering is prevalent because of a reliance on an efficient army of cleaners, lack of ownership of public spaces, and people’s tolerance of littering behavior.

Objectives of the FYP project:
1. Make the issue of littering personal – raise awareness for target audience that they are responsible for keeping the place clean.
2. Educate target audience to trash their litter
3. Interest target audience to remind others and become advocates”

Description
Over the last 10 years, in order to build up Singapore Cord Blood Bank’s (SCBB) Public Cord Blood inventory, efforts were targeted specifically at the Medical/Healthcare Community and expectant parents. Often, expectant mothers are referred by friends, relatives, obstetrics and gynecology (OG) doctors, OG clinics and even from the private cord blood banks. However, it is also due to the same aggressive and extensive marketing and promotion by the private cord blood banks that have made expectant parents research into cord blood banking to make a more educated and informed decision. This means that awareness of SCBB is low and typically expectant mothers (and fathers) are made aware of SCBB only when they are pregnant.

However, given the many considerations and emotions parents-to-be face during the pregnancy period, interest and consideration of SCBB are low and de-prioritised behind the needs of their incoming baby.

Many parents are not given the complete information about the usage of cord blood for Blood Stem Cell Transplantation for themselves or family. During an emotional time, many parents are pressurised into storage of the cord blood for themselves and their family for a cost (with private cord blood banks). Many parents are not aware of cord blood donation and would have donated instead of stored their cord blood for themselves.

Objectives of the FYP campaign:
1. Generate awareness of SCBB
2. Increase understanding of SCBB and what they do
3. Consider taking action – either donating when the time calls for it, or telling prospective parents about it.

Diploma in Music and Audio Technology

Biography
After being brought up by musicians and learning music all her life, Adelynne decided that she would continue to do music for the rest of her life even though she had her moments of wanting to drop the subject completely.

She was desperate to leave the classical music scene and discover more about music outside of the small rigid bubble she was raised in. Looking at this course she felt like this was the best fit for her, 3 years to completely concentrate on music and figure out what her strengths and weaknesses are.

During her course of study she discovered a skill in song writing but also a passion in sound design and music scoring. Realising this potential in her really encouraged her to dapple in more than one aspect of music and understand that her skills don’t have to be limited to just one thing.

She was lucky to get an internship with IMBA interactive. Being an avid gamer, to work for a game sound design company was the best internship Adelynne could ever get. Getting the opportunity to be featured in one of the biggest locally developed games, Masquerada, was beyond what she expected for her short internship.

Strengths/ Interests
Adelynne believes she is good at solving problems fast as she is quick on her feet. Aside from her inability to solve huge technical issues, she is able to lead a group and guide them through productions.

She’s largely interested in games and films and aims to work more on games and film sound design. Prior to her involvement in Masquerada, she was also involved in sound design for several student made short films in school. All these projects have fuelled her passion for this kind of collaborative work.

ABRSM Grade 5 Certification in Piano
ABRSM Grade 6 Certification in Music Theory

Biography
” To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan and not quite enough time ” – Leonard Bernstein

But when he joined his secondary school, the lovable tiger mum of his had encouraged him to join the Chinese orchestra and reluctantly, he picked up the cello because it was the closest thing they had to a western violin.

It wasn’t long before he fell completely in love with the instrument. You wouldn’t see Charles without a cello after his school hours because he enjoyed playing songs on it very much. Once a forced choice, soon became an enjoyed hobby and now its becoming his life career. In a short period of 3 years, he was able to teach himself how to play the cello and attained NUS cello grade 6 . And so, he is currently completing his Diploma in Music and Audio Technology in Singapore Polytechnic. Diploma in Music and Audio Technology

Biography
Upon completing his O’Levels, Gregory was adamant in wanting to enter a polytechnic instead of a JC as he had his eyes set on Music and Audio Technology, a music course in Singapore Polytechnic. He joined this course as he has a passion for music and wants to pursue a career in it.

When he started production workshop in his second year, song writing was a challenge for him, but being able to learn through writing lyrics, he finally had a passion for it and co-wrote an original by the end of his second year.

When he started Recording and Mixing techniques, there were many projects and assignments and he tries his best to help his friends as he has a particular interest in it and wants to learn and experience more.

When he started his third year with an internship in Stage4 and SoundImage, he realized how hard it was in the live sound field, but he gained a lot experience and learned a lot from the many events he did in these two companies.

Strengths/ Interests
Gregory personally feels that he works better in groups as the workload is shared and he can help around. It is also more fun to work in groups. However, even for individual work, he works well as he organisers his time and what to do.

His interest is in recording, mixing and production, both pre and post.

Diploma in Music and Audio Technology

Biography
An aspiring songwriter and performer, Jamie had only discovered her passion in music at the age of 16 and decided to pursue a relevant course in Singapore Polytechnic.

However, it has not been the smoothest of journeys. After going through many setbacks and disappointments, she has grown and learnt many things. Other than her interest in lyrics writing and rapping, her interest in live sound piqued when she joined SP Stage Management Club. She helped out with many events and eventually became the Treasurer of the CCA club.

During her intership in her third year with a local backline company, EBX, it further strengthened her passion in doing live events and providing instruments for shows and concerts.

In order to further improve and reinforce her musical knowledge, she signed up for a music career course with a local independent record label, Ocean Butterflies Music.
