Dominic Yuan is an arranger and composer who plays keyboards and guitar. He began learning music at the tender age of 7; taking keyboard classes at Yamaha Music
School. He eventually progressed to taking private classical piano lessons, attaining an ABRSM Grade 5 certification in both Piano and Music Theory. By the time he was 14, he was
playing keyboards regularly in church and was also enrolled in the Music Elective Programme (MEP) and later on took the Higher Music Programme, majoring in Composition.
Dominic’s exposure to varied kinds of music from Gospel (Marvin Sapp, Kirk Franklin, Israel Houghton) to Jazz Fusion (Dirty Loops, Snarky Puppy) and Progressive Metal (Periphery,
TesseracT) has given him an edge in arranging and composing across various forms of music, as well as giving his own compositions a unique and distinct sound that reflects his musical
Having been under the tutelage of jazz pianist Mei Sheum and jazz composer Felix Phang, as well as being mentored by guitarist Simon Yong through the Noise Mentorship Programme,
Dominic has many opportunities to learn the ropes of the industry through his Polytechnic life.
Primarily a church musician, Dominic has had a broad experience playing in bands; he was part of Singapore Polytechnic’s Jazz Band from 2015-2016, participating in Jazz Band’s
annual showcase ‘Improvise VII’, as well as being part of local pop fusion act GIRI who have tackled stages at venues like Gardens By The Bay and Beerfest Asia 2016. Dominic is also the
band leader of up-and- coming local progressive metal band Banana Suicide Forest who were part of the National Arts Council’s Noise Music Mentorship Programme 2017 and are
releasing their first EP in June 2018. Dominic was also part of a team that organized, wrote and brought together Jazz Ensemble Showcase Singularity on 14th January 2018 that saw 2
sets of original Jazz-fusion pieces performed live at Aliwal Arts Centre.
